Two of my many obsessions are Formula 1 (a type of car racing) and of course computers. Which got me thinking about my two favorite companies in these industries, Ferrari and Apple respectively. I don’t know whether it’s the speed, the groundbreaking designs, the technology and workmanship, the branding, the megalomaniac founder (Steve Jobs and Enzo Ferrari), the complete disdain for competition, or that all these descriptions apply aptly to both companies.
It’s strange but the companies you like and are loyal to reflect a lot about your own personality. Maybe somewhere in my mind I enjoy speed, regard competition with contempt, and probably can be labelled as a megalomaniac. Either way, your loyalty to a company can reveal what characteristics in life matter most to you.
More important than how companies reflect your personality is how they can be the best sources for inspiration. So the next time you’re trying to create a brand, design a product, or seeking self-improvement look outside your competitive set for some of the best sources of inspiration.
P.S. – Check out Pixar and Ferrari coming together after the break.
