Mom, Where’s The Toy?

As a child, I was always excited when my mom came home from grocery shopping. I’d rush over and grab the bags from her and head straight for the new cereal boxes. I’d rip off the top, tear open the plastic bag, and dig my hand deep inside in search of the infamous cereal box toy. Sometimes I’d be so caught up in the moment that I forgot to check what was inside and end up with a miniature ballet Barbie.

These days it seems like someone forgot to send Kellogg’s and General Mills the memo about requisite toys. Now it’s ‘4 UPC symbols’, ’sorry maybe next time’, ‘$3.95 shipping and handling’, or ‘visit our website to enter’. Too many steps without any smiles.

Whatever happened to simplicity or even instant gratification? Change is necessary but sometimes businesses and even people leave behind the best parts.

  • hahaha. As a self-proclaimed cereal aficionado I CAN RELATE! I think I eat it about 5 times a week. :) My latest disappointment: Corn Pops that didn't include the Star Trek USB drive on the box. Only they wanted $7.95. Damn thats the cost of a whole other box of cereal. Screw that. :)
  • I'd rather eat more cereal than have a Star Ship Enterprise USB - classic
    Chaalz!

I wouldn't be surprised if many companies were actually losing
loyalty/revenue in the long run because of how difficult they make things. I
think cereal toys is just the simplest of cases.
