Spring Cleaning This Dusty Old Blog

Spring is in the air and I felt it was time to make a few changes to the site.

Removed Google Adsense
That’s right – no more ads, good riddance Google. There were a number of reasons that made this an obvious choice, including the fact that it wasn’t really making me money. However, the main reason to get rid of the ads was because they were distracting. Not only did it distract you guys as readers but it also distracted me. There isn’t much point of logging into the Adsense system every few days just to see little if no movement.

Changed Share Options
Now, at the end of each post there’s a much easier and intuitive share feature. I was using ShareThis but found that even though it satisfied all my functionality requirements it wasn’t simple enough. So I did a little research and found that theSociable plugin for Wordpress was flexible, easy to use, and flat out pretty.

Work Ethic
This blog has only been in existence for 3 months now and already it has proven that blogging is a rewarding experience. People who know me have gotten to learn even more about me and probably have seen a side of me that just doesn’t come through everyday. I’ve also met a number of great people that I never would have and found some real sources for inspiration and support.

So moving forward it’s really about focusing even more on building and being part of a community. Part of this means taking part in other communities so you can also find a more active me on both Brazen Careerist and 20something Bloggers. If you could recommend any other forums/communities to join I’d really appreciate it. Being active in each of these is difficult but it’s really essential and just as rewarding as blogging itself.

Coming Soon
Finally, I’ll be making some design tweaks to make everything a little more pleasing on your eyes. Which includes adding a picture of me to the header, better RSS buttons, an email subscription option, and more. Suggestions are welcome!

  • haven't tried ads.. kind of tempted but i'm glad you removed them. yay to virtual spring cleaning! :)
  • @jacqueline thanks for the visit and the kind words hope to see you back soon!

@matt I read about that plugin on your site the other day and definitely need to add it to this site soon - thanks for the reminder. Feel free to send me ideas for guest posts at anytime, I'd be happy to include you on this humble little blog of mine.
  • Hi there--- I saw your post in "I Love Comments" on 20SB so figured I'd stop by. I like the idea of re-doing your blog; I've re-done mine a couple times. And I certainly agree with everything you've said about "work ethic," I, too, really want to focus on the community and writing more.

    Anyway, keep it up! :)
  • Looking good so far Rikin - I could redo and reformat my blog over and over again - I guess the perfectionist in me just isn't ever fully satisfied - which is why I've contemplated springing for the Thesis Theme, but I think I have a good thing going for now. My advice to you would be to get to a point that you're happy with and then focus only on putting out great content. You are a great writer and have some good thoughts - get things settled down and then crank out the writing.

I will suggest that you check out my latest AWESOME FRIDAY post - the What Would Seth Godin Do Plugin is especially useful - lets you put an unontrusive subscription (or whatever else) reminder at the end of each of your blog posts - you can see it in action on my blog, and check out the PIMP MY BLOG post here - some great resources you can tap into: http://www.lifewithoutpants.co...

Looking forward to doing some guest posting here as well!
